Good morning, this is your Frigate NVR update for January 21st, 2026.
NickM-27 merged a significant new feature implementing LLM Chat API with tool calling support. This PR adds over 1,200 lines of code including new chat endpoints, request and response definitions, and enhanced support across multiple AI providers including Azure OpenAI, Gemini, Llama CPP, and Ollama. The implementation provides APIs for defining available tools and handling chat interactions with generative AI models.
Hawkeye217 merged miscellaneous fixes for the 0.17 beta release. The changes address UI layout issues in tracking details, particularly fixing 4:3 aspect ratio layouts and improving aspect ratio handling between detect and record streams. The update also enhances the empty camera view with more specific messaging, adds clarification about ONVIF account requirements for some camera firmware, and includes documentation updates for Intel B-series GPU support and review summary reports.
Additional improvements include internationalization fixes, better FFmpeg logging on exit, review settings interface refinements, and updated hardware documentation that clarifies Intel Battlemage GPU support.
What's next: The 0.17 beta continues development with these chat API capabilities representing a major step toward more interactive AI functionality. Users can expect continued refinements to the beta release as development progresses.
That's your Frigate NVR update. We'll be back tomorrow with the latest development activity.
