Good morning, this is your Frigate NVR update for January 22nd, 2026.
hawkeye217 merged a comprehensive fix package for the 0.17 beta release. The pull request addresses several key areas, starting with Gemini AI integration improvements. The team removed the API version specification for the Gemini GenAI client, defaulting to the stable version for better reliability. This change came with updated documentation - they removed an outdated 247-line configuration file and consolidated Gemini documentation into the proper location.
The classification system received important fixes as well. Updates to the classification API and the model edit dialog component should resolve issues users were experiencing with the classification interface. The Events page also received a fix to properly handle date selection and review marking - events will now correctly update their status when marked as reviewed.
Behind the scenes, the web interface saw improvements to the ClassificationModelEditDialog component with 28 lines added and 8 removed, suggesting enhanced functionality or better error handling.
This merge represents a net reduction of 182 lines of code while adding meaningful functionality, indicating good code cleanup alongside the fixes. The changes span both backend Python code and frontend TypeScript components, showing the comprehensive nature of these improvements.
What's next: These fixes should improve stability for beta users testing the classification features. The Gemini integration updates may also resolve connectivity issues some users reported.
That's your Frigate update. Back tomorrow with more development news.
