Good morning. This is your Frigate NVR update for January 13th, 2026.

Hawkeye217 merged a major media sync API refactor and UI overhaul. The update introduces a new job management system with dedicated classes for handling media synchronization tasks. The changes span fifteen files with nearly a thousand lines added, including new API endpoints, updated documentation, and a complete restructure of how Frigate handles media operations internally.

NickM-27 merged security improvements for go2rtc sources, restricting exec, expr, and echo sources by default. This change prevents potential security vulnerabilities by limiting which command execution sources can be used without explicit configuration. The update includes new documentation explaining how administrators can re-enable these sources when needed.

Both changes represent significant architectural improvements. The media sync refactor provides a more robust foundation for handling large-scale recording operations, while the go2rtc restrictions follow security best practices by defaulting to safer configurations.

What's next: The new job management system opens the door for additional background task types beyond media sync. The go2rtc security changes may require configuration updates for users currently relying on exec sources.

That's your Frigate update for today.
