Good morning, this is your Frigate NVR Updates for February 27th, 2026.
Blake Blackshear merged the major 0.17 release, bringing over 115,000 additions and changes across 1,435 files. This represents a significant milestone for the open-source network video recorder platform.
NickM-27 began early work on version 0.18, though the initial pull request required a quick revert and remerge due to merge conflicts. The 0.18 development includes networking configuration improvements and updated Docker containers.
Several notable feature additions made it into this release cycle. Nicolas Mowen implemented LLM chat API with tool calling support, allowing users to interact with AI models through the platform. The same contributor also added llama.cpp as a GenAI provider and refactored the time-lapse export functionality for better performance.
Blake Blackshear updated YOLOv9 Coral support in the object detection system. Martin Weinelt modernized the TensorFlow Lite runtime by switching from the legacy tflite-runtime to ai-edge-litert, Google's successor package.
Additional improvements include API events now supporting both detections and alerts based on event labels, offline preview images for disconnected cameras, and better CPU statistics processing. Felipe CRS increased the maximum stream timeout from 10 to 15 seconds to accommodate slower network conditions.
Documentation received updates across installation guides, hardware acceleration settings, and configuration references to improve clarity for new users.
Looking ahead, version 0.18 development is underway with networking enhancements and container optimizations. The team continues expanding AI integration capabilities with improved GenAI provider support.
That's your Frigate NVR update for February 27th. Stay tuned for more development news.
