Good morning, this is Home Assistant Daily for May 28th, 2026.

Erik Montnemery merged zone triggers for entered and left zone events, adding new automation capabilities for location-based triggers. The same feature was initially reverted due to accidentally pushing future commits, then properly re-merged. Montnemery also deprecated the device tracker battery_level and TrackerEntity location_name properties as part of ongoing API modernization.

Mark VP merged GeneralDiagnostics sensors and fault binary sensors to the Matter integration, expanding diagnostic capabilities for Matter devices. Ludovic Boué added Matter soil moisture sensor support for smart garden monitoring.

Stefan Agner merged a critical security fix that rejects backup uploads with unsafe inner names, preventing path traversal attacks through malicious backup files.

Puddly bumped ZHA to version 1.4.0 with improvements across 24 files. Several other dependency updates were merged including WiiM library to 1.0.4, dbus-fast to 5.0.16, and yalexs to 9.2.1.

A bug fix was applied to OMIE sensors that weren't updating their state on setup, ensuring proper initialization. Alex Romanov added Tuya smart kettle select entities for improved appliance control.

The Matter light integration now includes device identity information in transition blocklist warnings, making it easier to identify problematic devices when multiple Matter lights are present.

Franck Nijhof bumped the core version to 2026.7.0dev0, officially starting the next development cycle.

What's next:

• Continued Matter sensor expansion and device support improvements

• Further device tracker API deprecations as the modernization continues
