Ruby Core Updates: ZJIT Speed Push and Memory Safety Fixes
ZJIT dominated activity with fused type checks and new method specializations to cut generated code, while a cluster of use-after-free fixes hardened Time, String unpack, Marshal, and IO Buffer. Fibers also gained parallel collection during Ractor local GC.

Good morning, it's Tuesday, September 23rd, 2026.
Our lead story: Ruby core is pushing on two fronts at once — making Z Jit leaner and faster, and closing memory-safety holes where Ruby callbacks can pull memory out from under C code.
First, Z Jit performance. The biggest change, in pull request 18633, fuses the hot type check plus conditional branch pair used for polymorphic dispatch into a single branch-has-type instruction. That removes an intermediate boolean and duplicate branching, directly shrinking machine code for everyday method calls.
That same efficiency theme runs through three new specializations: Struct class dot new in 18835, built on 18888 which tightens struct member handling, Class superclass folding in 18682, and broader elision of Kernel dup in 18872. For developers, that means fewer fallbacks to the interpreter for common object…
Underneath, there's cleanup for correctness and memory use. 18953 stops allocating instruction sequence payloads just to free them, fixing a leak for short-lived eval code. 18967 makes the low-level abort operation a proper block terminator. Open work to watch includes 18960 on locals in stack maps and side exits,…
Second, memory…
