Good morning, it's Friday, October 16th, 2026, and this is Next.js Daily.

The lead story is a concerted hardening of navigation caching. The client-side cache team is removing special cases and unifying how prefetches and navigations are stored and reused.

First, cached navigations. In PR 99617, the team removed the old static-stage extraction. The reasoning in the feed: cached navigations are now too important to be opt-in per route, so they're always enabled when partial prefetching is on. Instead of caching just the static part, the client now extracts the reusable…

Second, Turbopack reliability and speed. PR 100102 fixes a hydration break under a nonce-based content security policy when cache components are on, by emitting the runtime bootstrap from the per-request portion so it gets the nonce. PR 100158 fixes extensionless Google Fonts URLs crashing Webpack and failing in…

Third, release churn. PR 100136 put middleware and rendering into one OpenTelemetry trace instead of two or three. It was backported in PR 100226, then reverted in PR 100269 after issue 100226, with maintainers saying it needs more canary testing before LTS.

What's next: watch for the larger prefetch refactor…
