Good morning, it's October 3rd, 2026, and this is your Next.js daily briefing.
Our lead story: shallow navigation gets a lot more stable under Cache Components. Two fixes from Andrew Clark address the same user pain — typing in an input, updating the URL, and watching the whole page flash to a fallback and drop focus.
The first, PR 99612, found that router restores — that's browser history updates, back and forward moves, and pages restored from the back-forward cache — were escaping their transition. The action queue applied results in a later microtask, outside the transition scope, so anything that suspended on the new URL…
The second, PR 99611, stops client params and search params from suspending on those same shallow updates. Since the values are already known on the client, the code now marks them as fulfilled up front instead of creating a fresh promise each render.
Second theme: Turbopack runtime efficiency and correctness. PR 98947 moves the module cache from a plain object to a Map for faster execution-time lookups. PR 98932 shrinks output by tagging only the rare getter exports, since value exports account for about 90 percent in practice. On the task backend, PR 99386…
