Good morning, it's Tuesday, October 13th, 2026, and this is your Kubernetes briefing.
The through-line today is correctness at scale: scheduler logic for grouped workloads is being simplified and hardened, while long-standing accounting bugs get fixed.
First, workload-aware scheduling is maturing. In PR 142271, duplicate helpers for getting child groups were unified with sorting preserved only where it matters, a direct performance and maintainability win. Related cleanups in PR 142946 and PR 142951 move preemption victim logic out of type definitions and stop…
Second, controllers and observability. PR 142923 fixes double-counting in the Job pod creation counter, where a failed create was recorded as both failed and succeeded. PR 142922 stops the Job controller from reducing the ready count when a pod delete actually fails. Together, they mean dashboards and autoscaling…
Third, kubectl locks in behavior. Merged in PR 142861, exec, attach, copy and port-forward now use WebSockets first with fallback, and the temporary opt-in flags are removed. Merged in PR 142338, create ingress now rejects empty default backends and empty annotation keys.
