Good day, and welcome to Jabref Daily for October 7th, 2026.
Today's lead story: a fix for a genuinely frustrating bug in AI summaries, and the process of getting it safely into the stable release.
PR #17236, from koppor, fixed the "Regenerate custom" button in AI summaries, which was silently doing nothing. The root issue: the dialog's "Generate" button was being treated like "Cancel," so picking a different summarization algorithm was simply ignored. Notably, this fix was then ported to the stable branch via PR #17385, following JabRef's branching strategy. Worth remembering: stable ports can carry conflict markers if the cherry-pick doesn't apply cleanly, so always double check those before merging.

PR #17356 from YasmineBML colors the relevance star gold when an entry is marked, fixing a case where hover and marked states looked identical — so a click could unmark something without the user noticing. PR #17215 adds a visible "API key configured" status in the web…
Also worth a mention: PR #17389, still open, aims to fix back-and-forward navigation getting stuck on deleted…
