Good morning, this is your Frigate NVR Updates for May 16th, 2026.

Nicolas Mowen merged "Implement semantic query for chat," introducing enhanced search capabilities to Frigate's chat API. The update adds 254 lines of new code to the chat.py module, significantly expanding how users can query and interact with the chat system through semantic search functionality.

Josh Hawkins merged "Miscellaneous fixes," delivering several important improvements across the platform. The changes include synchronizing audio filter entries with track and listen labels, automatically populating audio filters from the listen configuration rather than the full labelmap. This matches the existing behavior for object filters and streamlines the audio configuration process. The update also adds security improvements by rejecting restricted go2rtc stream sources when added via API, and includes translation fixes for lifecycle descriptions with attributes. The pull request touched nine files with 135 additions and 69 deletions.

Both commits represent the merged pull requests, with the chat enhancement focusing on user experience improvements and the miscellaneous fixes addressing both security and configuration management.

What's next: The semantic chat query implementation suggests continued focus on AI-driven features, while the security enhancements around stream sources indicate ongoing hardening efforts.

That's your Frigate development update for today. Stay tuned for tomorrow's briefing.
