Good morning, this is your Frigate NVR Updates for May 22nd, 2026.
Yesterday saw significant activity with five merged pull requests totaling over 600 lines of code changes. Nicolas Mowen merged "Support Dynamic Thinking Models," the largest update with 410 additions across 16 files. This enhancement adds the ability to toggle thinking capabilities in AI chat interactions and automatically disables thinking for description tasks. The update includes new chat composer components and extends support across multiple AI providers including Gemini, OpenAI, Ollama, and LlamaC++.
Josh Hawkins addressed multiple issues with "Debug replay fixes," modifying 18 files to filter replay cameras from selectors, add face recognition and license plate recognition to replay configuration, and fix missing config topic subscriptions in the embeddings maintainer.
Mowen followed up with a quick "Fix GenAI Signature" pull request, cleaning up type checking issues and ensuring proper method signatures across AI provider plugins.
The team also merged two documentation updates from Hawkins, expanding the masks configuration guide and troubleshooting FAQ sections to provide clearer guidance for users.
Additional commits included the full implementation of dynamic thinking models and comprehensive cleanup of the AI chat codebase with improved type safety.
What's next: The AI chat functionality appears to be stabilizing with these type fixes, while the debug replay system should now handle camera filtering more reliably. Documentation improvements should reduce common configuration questions.
That's your Frigate NVR update for today.
